How do we help our kids understand what it means to be thankful? Hi, I’m Renee Swope for Proverbs 31 Ministries. I don’t know about you, but I want my kids to realize that Thanksgiving is about more than turkey and pumpkin pie. Here are a few ideas I’ve heard from friends on how they’ve helped their kids learn the meaning of being grateful. One is to schedule a time for your family to serve in your community. Maybe you can work at a soup kitchen or help an elderly couple with yard work. Another idea is to have a writing contest for all the kids who’ll be at your holiday gathering. You can offer a prize for everyone who writes a short story about what they’re most thankful for and then reads it for the family before dinner. A third idea is as everyone gathers at the table; have them spend a few minutes sharing why they’re thankful for the person next to them. For more ideas on celebrating with your family log on at proverbs31.org.
