Does Jesus Work?

Can a regular person like me answer the profound question the world is asking? Hi I’m Lysa TerKeurst with Proverbs 31 Ministries. Today’s society is asking…Does Jesus work?

Well, I’m just a country girl with a husband and 5 kids. I’m not a theologian and I don’t have a PhD. I’m just a woman who dared to utter one little word that shifted my heart and set my soul on the adventure I was designed to live. I simply said “Yes” to Jesus. All I have to show the world that Jesus works is my one little "yes" and a story of what happened when an ordinary woman dared to utter it. And it has been enough.

It’s enough for all of us. The only thing we need in order to share Jesus with others is the reality of what He’s done in our lives. The more we learn to live like Him, the more the world will see Him and know that Jesus ABSOLUTELY works!

Lisa,
I really love and appreciate your ministry. My wife loves reading your devotions, but, I must say, I have to respectfully disagree with today's broadcast. Whether or not Jesus "works" has nothing to do with truth. If something is true just because it works or provides someone with a testimony, then that means Mormonism is true, Islam is true, Hinduism is true, etc., etc. Of course, we know this is nonsense. The problem with the "Jesus works" view is that everyone has a testimony, regardless of religion. Our testimonies are extremely important, but they're not the only thing, nor the most important thing, at least initially. We must have an objective reference of facts by which we compare other worldviews to see which corresponds to reality, i.e. which is true. Thankfully for Christianity we have so much more than just the fact that Jesus works. There is abundant evidence that shows God exits, the Bible is historically reliable, Jesus actually rose from the dead, etc. In other words, there is wonderful objective reason to believe that Christianity is actually true, regardless of it I "feel" that way or if it happens to be "working" for me at the moment. I think we do Christ a disservice when we leave out the fact that He's called us to love Him with all of our MINDS in addition to our hearts and souls. Again, I hope you hear this as iron sharpening iron and not a finger pointing put down. Thanks again for your ministry, but please ponder 1 Peter 3:15. Thanks and blessings.
